When local AI is slow or does not respond
Slow or missing replies do not tell you the cause. Try these checks one at a time.
Wait for the first response
If the app says it is preparing its first response, give it some time before changing anything. How long it takes varies by setup.
Try one short question
Ask one short question about one task. Skip long pasted text and extra instructions for now.
Check the app’s PC requirements
If the app lets you choose a model or size, compare it with that app’s PC requirements and follow its guidance.
Pause if it still does not respond
If a shorter retry is still slow or gets no reply, stop changing settings and use the PC guidance below.
